| | AGAINST ME!!!! | ] | I miss Against Me! I had overplayed them and haven't listened to them much since. And forgot how damn good they. I've been downloading a lot lately, and have been adding a lot more music to my repertoire. I like listening to a variety of music, because you can always find something for your mood that way. This is my music nerd post and I'm gonna make a sweet "post memories plz" post in a minute after this. But for now, I'm going to list ten bands that I think anyone who has me on livejournal should listen to/I think they would like. I'll compare them to someone more noticeable. THEN! all you readers gotta post five or ten new stuffs for me that you think I'd like. Or even if you don't think I'd be huge on it, I'll download a bunch anyway, just in case! kgo.
1. The Lawrence Arms - Three-piece punk-rock outta Chicago. Rotating singers, one with a smoother/more normal voice, one with a sweet raspy/scratchy voice. Most times it's a song by song type thing, others it's a duet. Both are awesome, and I love this band. Very A+ lyrics, with crazycatchy melodies that'll make you shiver. for fans of: ...not really sure, I can't compare these guys to anyone. SORRY YOU'LL HAVE TO TRUST ME LAWL.
2. Latterman - Sing-a-long hardcore mixed with Against Me!'s type of energy and passion. Very sweet lyrics that go along with awesome catchy melodies, that'll have you chanting along in no time. for fans of: Against Me! and Comeback Kid
3. Arrogant Sons of Bitches - Ska-punk. uuuummm, it's really fast thirdwave ska stuff, with lots of upstroke guitar and trombone, with the lead singer more often than not ranting on about something or other. It's very good and I listen to it all the time. Usually have fairly poor recordings, but you can def. get the point of how sweet they are. for fans of: Against All Authority, Big D and the Kids Table, and Choking Victim
4. Pavement - One of the godfathers of indie-rock. Most people who are all into indie and like...wear a scarf and stuff don't usually listen to these dudes, or have heard of them for that matter, but they should. To me, they are the one indie band I'd listen to if I could only listen to one for the rest of my life. for fans of : Sonic Youth and the Weakerthans
5. Alkaline Trio - I use to hate this band, but recently it clicked how fucking good they are. One of my favourites currently. They are another three piece band from Chicago, and have the same three piece/handoff vocals as the Lawrence Arms. However, these guys tend to be a "darker" punk band, who deal with such grave topics as....alcoholism, depression, and narcicism! oo0o0. Yeah, also really catchy, and also have unreal lyrics. for fans of: emo, AFI, Motion City Soundtrack, Brand New, and old Saves the Day
6. MIchael Jordan Touchdown Pass - This is actually just one guy making all this awesome music. He has a very nice voice, and is an excellent song writer. The day I bought this cd, I couldn't stop listening to it for a week. One of the better albums I've heard all year was this guy's debut. for fans of: the Weakerthans
7. Defiance, Ohio - These guys remind me of summer and I love that. Some songs are all cute and meaningful, played acousitcly, and others are more comical, upbeat and downright catchy, played electricly. An all time favourite for sure, and have been enjoyed by most who've listened to them (except one crazy mofo). for fans of : Against Me!, and acoustic music.
8. At the Drive-In - Just to set off some warning bells...these guys were pre-Mars Volta. When they broke up, the lead guitarist/songwriter and vocalist formed the mars volta, so that gives you an idea. They are a little bit more "sweet punk rock" than mars volta, and a little less "useless sound garbage" (not to say I don't love mars volta's first album!). These guys are just really tech. and have awesome vocals. for fans of: good music, and "Deloused In the Commodoafasdasnfla" by the Mars Volta.
9. This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb - Country-punk what's up?! That's right. These southern punx use more of a country-played-at-warp-speed style. Really catchy, and their bass player is a chick, and she sings sometimes and is super cute! Songs are all really catchy, and they have one about Jack Johnson. yeah. hipster trap. for fans of: Defiance, Ohio, and....Johnny Cash?
10. Jawbreaker - Ok, so as most of you know, I "hate emo." This is true, but only regarding new emo. What used to be emo was great. It used to be a step above Hardcore in the late '80s, being called "Emotionally charged hardcore punk". Then that someone got converted into whiney slit wrist shitty garbage...damn you the Smiths, damn you. Anyway, Jawbreaker was one of the first "realt and tr00" emo bands. I really like old emo like these guys. It's really awesome. for fans of: Rites of Spring, Fugazi, and if you like new emo, give some old stuff a shot.
Ok, so I know this was probably a huge waste of time, and most people won't read it. But if some people do that'd be awesome, because I don't post very often. If at least one person gets a sweet new band out of this, I'd be pleased! ooook, enough being a loser, I have skittles to eat (jealous?)!
so! please post some bands for me, and at some point get back to me about any of those bands!

On that note, none of these have anything to do with the bands above but here are some new(and not so new) people I've been listening to that perhaps you'd like: Akron/Family(just saw them in CT my fav. is their self titled album, they put on a great show too) Andrew Bird- The Mysterious Production of Eggs Circa Survive, not sure if you'd be into them but they are one of my favourite bands. Django Reinhardt- in case you're looking for some gypsy-esq watnot with crazy guitar skillz Elliot Smith- Ive been listening to him more..speaking of old emo and boys in scarves Interpol(Antics is my favourite album) The Mountain Goats are amazing. Takes a little while to get into but they are wonderful Neutral Milk Hotel. There are many more Im sure but I have to go. I hope your winter is going well and Im sure I'll see you over march break.
